Adeola Dewis is a Trinidadian Visual Artist. Adeola graduated from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine in 2000 with First Class Honours in Visual Arts. She migrated to Wales in 2003 where she pursued preliminary dance training before going on to do her Masters degree in Fine Arts at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff. Adeola then attended Cardiff University on a Re-constructing Multiculturalism Award and completed her PhD there. Her work looks at Trinidad Carnival performance and the translation of its self-empowering effects for art making and art presentation within the UK. Her interest in Carnival, masquerade, ritual and public performances lies in the ways in which they facilitate the creation of sacred spaces, re-imagine ritual performances and engage arts of transformation though body, mask and movement.
